RESCUED?

He walked the ribboned road alone

Abandoned since his youth

Not much flesh upon his bone

Bad mannered, unkempt, uncouth.

Always nervous and on the move

He had a keen and shifty eye,

Constantly trying to improve

His skills, as the days went by.

Scorned, deserted and left to die

He had resolved to fight and live

This wrong he'd work to rectify,

For in his heart there was love to give.

Alas, despite his vigilance

He was caught, then chained and caged,

Escape would depend upon their diligence

And the strategy he engaged.

He was suspicious of their attitude,

Their food and clean dry straw,

What did they expect, his gratitude

Their clan had statrted this war.

They stood in groups and gawked at him,

Was this to be his epilogue?

Escape from here looked very slim

Now that he was a rescued dog!
